This is fine for interactive use, but sometimes we just want to delay the batch file for a fixed number of seconds, without user interaction. It waits for the specified number of seconds and then exits. It waits for the specified number of seconds or a keypress , and then exits. Download the PMSleep sources. Download the Wait.
For longer delay times especially, it would be nice to let the user know what time is left. That is why I wrote CountDown. Pressing any key will skip the remainder of the count down, allowing the batch file to continue with the next command. Download CountDown. By default it starts displaying a tooltip which will be visible for 10 seconds or any timeout specified , but the program will terminate immediately after starting the tooltip.

I like this solution more than the the one marked as the answer because this is cleaner as we don't have to make sure that our script has a non-existent IP address. Therefore, we can write the script once and use it on any Windows system in any network without editing the script again. Since RFC became obsoleted I'm using this solution.
Or perhaps use localhost to avoid problems on IPv6-only machines. Also not a Windows XP command Now that WindowsXP is on the way out, it seems like this is really the way to do it in the future.

Lee Lee. Its in fact better than sleep. It tells time remaining! It works on Windows and Windows 7 though. ItayLevin: the unit is seconds.
